Community Outreach
Night of
Theatre Outreach Program
The St. George Theatre is committed
to encourage the widest possible audience for the
arts ~ touching the lives of so many through
hundreds of performances by the greatest artists
from our hometown to across America and around the
world. Since 2004, the
Night of Theatre Outreach Program has provided free
tickets to thousands of children, teens, and seniors
who come from socially and economically challenged
homes. Senior citizen groups and community service
organizations are among the many groups visiting the
St. George Theatre every year.
The
St. George Theatre is committed to promoting access
to the arts.
You can request tickets by sending us a letter
on your organization’s letterhead.
Include the following:

~ Why are you asking for tickets
~ How many tickets will you need.
~ Contact information with phone number.
Program is supported by the St. George Theatre Star
Fund, NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, Rotary of
Staten Island, NYC Department of Aging, Councilman

Summer Educational
Outreach Program
FREE dance and theatre training is offered to 75 children ages nine to eighteen that come from socially and economically challenged homes.
Session: August 3, 2009 to August 14, 2009, Monday to Friday 9:30am to 2:00pm
(This is a two week, five days a week, full-time program.)
Classes are offered in: Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Tap, Street Tap, Dance History, Theatre History, Careers in the Arts, Nutrition, Literacy, Public Speaking, Preparation for Auditions, and Performance
We strive to provide a safe, nurturing, and caring environment. A healthy lunch is provided daily. In addition to the technique classes, students learn about nutrition and how to achieve a healthy lifestyle. This program has a positive impact both on the community and the child. Building self esteem, encouraging literacy, and empowerment to motivate these youngsters is essential for their growth as individuals.
At the conclusion of the program, students perform at the SGT. An awards ceremony concludes the program with distribution of certificates, trophies, and scholarships in dance.
How to apply:
Students must apply in person at the Theatre from June 1st to August 1st, 2009.
Applicants will be interviewed and required to fill out an application.

Performance and Awards Ceremony
Saeko Ichinohe Dance Company ~ The program is a dance based on a Japanese fairy tale with a message "Be kind to animals." This fast paced dance is filled with colorful costumes including a Japanese kimono and frequent use of unique props which will engage the eyes of the audience. The performance brings cheer, laugh and joy. At the conclusion of the performance, there will be a student workshop where there will be student participation on stage, trying props such as waves and Japanese fans.
Friday, November 13th Students receive two complimentary tickets to attend The Best of Broadway ~ tunes from Wicked, Hairspray, High School Musical, Sound of Music and Jesus Christ Superstar.
Program supported by: NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, Carnegie Corporation, Staten Island Foundation, Con Edison, Cargo Café, Karl's Klipper, Lacey's Bridge Tavern, individual and corporate donors.

Architectural and Back Stage Tours
We encourage our Staten
Island schools and those of our neighboring
communities to share and embrace all that this
magnificent 1929 theatre has to offer. The class
trip includes a tour of the entire theatre. Students
will learn about the history of the St. George
Theatre, architectural design, the technical aspects
of presenting a show, career paths in the arts and
theatre etiquette. A full color class act booklet
is given to all the students. This booklet includes
information about the history of theatre, careers in
the arts, theatre etiquette, and hands on activities
including word search games and puzzles related to
the arts.
How to apply:
Speak with the educational
coordinator at 718-442-2900 to schedule a tour for
your class or camp.
Tours are approximately one hour
and suggested time for arrival is 10:00am.
Cost: $6.00 per student and
adult chaperone. Teachers are free.
