1,2,3,4! A Celebration of Music & Dance from Around the World

The St. George Theatre will present a free event celebrating music and dance from around the world on the theatre’s main stage.  Entitled “1,2,3,4! A Celebration of Music & Dance from Around the World” this free event take place from 1pm-4pm and will feature performers from Africa, Mexico, and Sri Lanka sharing their cultures with the Staten Island community.

Schedule of Events:

1:00pm – 1:40pm
“Mariachi Real de Mexico”
Traditional Mexican music and dance presentation by Martha Zarate and Ramon Ponce of Mariachi Real de Mexico featuring acoustic guitars, violin, and beautiful vocal harmonies.

2:00pm – 2:40pm
“Jomion and the Uklos”

Three blood-brothers from the coastal West African city of Cotonou blend reggae, salsa, and jazz with Caribbean styles while drawing on their vast knowledge of traditional vodun (voodoo) music and culture to create vibrant, relaxed dance music.

3:00pm – 3:40pm
“Sri Lankan Dance Academy of New York”

The Sri Lankan Dance Academy of New York will present authentic examples of the Sri Lankan art form of Kandyan dance with elaborate clothing and accessories.

Later that evening, Staten Island native Candice Guardino will present her original one-woman-show Italian Bred on the theatre’s main stage celebrating her Italian American upbringing at 8PM. Tickets for this theatrical comedy range from $19-$59 and can be purchased HERE.

The initiative is supported, in part, by public funds from the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, City Council, and in partnership with the Center for Traditional Dance and Music’s Beat of the Boroughs NYC.
