SUMMER Educational FREE Outreach Programs – Setting the Stage for Success!

NY1 News – Kids Take the Stage at St. George Theatre this Summer

The St. George Theatre will host a twelve day program for young people ages 9 -18 designed to up their game when it comes to personal achievement. The theme Setting the Stage for Success will expose the students to a variety of disciplined classes in dance and theater all to gain confidence in the real world. Through their participation in these arts and educational outreach programs, students will uncover skills and talents in the arts as well as life lessons. Our goal is to share our knowledge of the arts to our students all while we inspire, motivate, enrich and educate!

For boys and girls, ages 9 – 18.

Dates and Times: July 21 to August 3   9:30am to 2:00pm

 

This 12 day program includes ten instructional days and two theater experience days is a great way to learn about many techniques in dance while being introduced to dance, theater, music and so much more! Classes include modern, jazz, ballet, hip-hop, street tap, multi-culture dance, singing, acting, musical theater, dance history, careers in the arts, literacy, public speaking, preparation for auditions, and performance.

Lunch is provide daily however if you have any allergies, we ask that you bring your own yummy lunch daily. Students are asked to wear comfortable clothing (t-shirt and biker shorts are perfect), sneakers with socks every day for modern, ballet, and hip-hop classes. T-shirts and costumes are given to the students. Live music will be accompanying the dance instructor and students in some classes. Our reading specialist and acting professionals will work daily with the students and through our literacy component, they will learn so much more related to the arts and their stage!

Special Days:

IlluminArt Productions: On August 1st teaching artists from IlluminArt will work on creative script writing for the day.

Theme: Students will learn and prepare for a production number that encompasses spoken word, singing and dancing to pay tribute to the legendary Prince.

Student Showcase and Awards Ceremony: August 3rd, 1pm.   Save the date and invite your family and friends to this fabulous presentation by the students.

Theater Experience Day: Saturday, October 1st, 8pm, students along with one guest will enjoy the Arrival from Sweden “ABBA” Tribute Show.

Theater Experience Day: Thursday, December 8th, 7pm, students along with one guest will enjoy the annual production The Annual Christmas Show. Students will also have backstage access for a tour.

Student’s Showcase and Awards Ceremony: Family and friends are invited to enjoy the student’s showcase on August 3rd – a celebration of dance and singing followed by the awards ceremony.

Live Performances: Students receive a special invitation to enjoy two live performances during the year compliments of the theater.

  • Application/registration is open until July 1, 2016.
  • Students and/or their families can apply in person at the theatre now through the close of registration. Registration forms are available on-line at the theatre’s website: stgeorgetheatre.com. Applications can be mailed, hand-delivered or e-mailed to info@sgtr.org .
  • Students are accepted on basis of application and interview (required to be admitted to the program) and are notified by e-mail, phone or in person.
  • Priority registration given to children who come from socially and/or economically challenged homes
