We are pleased to inform you of our exciting new season of educational programming at the St. George Theatre in Staten Island, NY!

Once again we will be offering quality professional live performances for students of all ages. Q & A time, mini workshops and tours! We are committed to making a genuine theatrical experience and all it has to offer accessible to everyone. Live Performances

The St. George Theatre features educational live performances for grades Pre-K to High School. These shows are dynamic, enriching, educational and so much fun for all ages!  The live performances are performed by regional, national, and international professional touring companies, connecting the arts to the classroom curriculum.

Teachers receive at no additional cost an arts educational curriculum which connects the performance to what students are learning in school. This curriculum addresses the five strands of the NYC Board of Educational Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts. These programs and study guides are custom planned for each performance. It has been found that discussing your visit to the St. George Theatre with your students both before and after the performance helps make the experience more significant.

Show Tickets

$10 (prime seating) and $7 (general seating) per student/chaperone. Teachers/paraprofessionals are free. Seating is assigned on a first-come/first-served basis according to age and need. (Please make your check payable to “St. George Theatre Restoration, Inc.” ) A $50 is required at booking and balance must be paid two weeks prior to the performance.

2017 LIVE PERFORMANCES

A Charlie Brown Christmas

Grades: 1 – 5

The classic animated television special, “A Charlie Brown Christmas”, comes to life in this faithful stage adaptation where Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the other Peanuts grapple with “the real meaning of Christmas”.

THEMES: Friendship, Peace, Modesty

A Christmas Carol

Grades: K – 8

Warm your hearts with Charles Dickens’ holiday classic. Watch mean Ol’ Scrooge as he discovers Christmas is not a HUMBUG! This puppet spectacular features beautiful handcrafted marionettes, shadow puppets, gorgeous masks, lavish costumes, vivid sets, a professional soundtrack that includes many holiday favorites, a giant 9-foot parade puppet, and guaranteed smiles! Experience this literary masterpiece that reaches far beyond the holiday season!

Jackie Robinson

Grades: K – 5

This baseball star played an important role in integrating professional sports. His story is showcased in a production which is heartwarming, lively and interactive. Young audiences join Jackie as he learns valuable lessons from his mother, then cheer him on as he scores his first home run as a professional baseball player. Volunteers even join Jackie onstage to help him overcome bullying without fighting back. The Jackie Robinson story is the perfect complement to Black History celebrations and inspires young people to do what is right, follow their dreams and never give up.

Four Score and Seven Years Ago

Grades: 3 – 8

To young Lemuel, who has escaped slavery in Georgia, life in Gettysburg is everything he had dreamed it would be. His ideas about the North and the South, as well as what it means to be a free man, are challenged, however, when he unexpectedly befriends Jacob, a young Confederate soldier. The two men may be of different races and on different sides of the Civil War, but they have much to teach each other about bravery and loyalty in ArtsPower’s exciting and suspenseful musical.

Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great

Sheila Tubman, otherwise known as Sheila the Great, comes of age in ArtsPower’s lively and poignant musical, based on Judy Blume’s popular novel, about discovering the person within.

The Wizard of Oz

Grades: K – 6

Little Dorothy Gale of Kansas dreams of what lies over the rainbow. Come join Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tinman, the Cowardly Lion, and Toto, as they travel the universe of Dorothy’s imagination! Songs include “Over the Rainbow”, “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead”, and “We’re Off to See the Wizard” – all performed to LIVE music!

Charlotte’s Web

Grades: Pre-K – 5

Theatreworks’ production of Charlotte’s Web is based on E.B. White’s loving story of the friendship between a pig named Wilbur and a little gray spider named Charlotte. Wilbur has a problem: how to avoid winding up as pork chops! Charlotte, a fine writer and true friend, hits on a plan to fool Farmer Zuckerman — she will create a “miracle.” Spinning the words “Some Pig” in her web, Charlotte weaves a solution which not only makes Wilbur a prize pig, but ensures his place on the farm forever. This treasured tale, featuring mad-cap and endearing farm animals, explores bravery, selfless love, and the true meaning of friendship.

American Giants of Science

Grades: 2 – 8

American Giants of Science – Thomas Edison, Dian Fossey, Benjamin Franklin, Steve Jobs and more all make their appearance in this fast-paced show. In a whirlwind tour through time, your young audience meets some of America’s most famous inventors and scientists. The best part of this program is the audience interaction. We feature audience volunteers onstage that help Ben Franklin fly his kite, work with Alexander Graham Bell on placing a phone call and so much more. This rollicking educational adventure is laugh-out-loud funny.

The Story of Anne Frank

Grades: 4 – 8

Join us in honoring the end of WWII with this production that celebrates the courage of young Anne Frank and her family. Bullied

We’re tackling bullying head-on in this serious and powerful production designed especially for grades 4-8. This production takes an honest and open look at the bullying epidemic and it’s ramifications for both bullies and the bullied. This show strives to empower young people with the tools to stop someone from bullying them, how to engage when they see someone else being bullied and present a serious anti-bullying message.

Curious George

Grades: Pre-K – 3

Join the inquisitive, lovable little monkey Curious George, star of books, movies and the award winning PBS television show in this delightful new musical. All–You-Can-Eat Meatball Day came just once a year. George had been waiting all month for that day, a day almost bigger than his birthday! On Meatball Day, George helped his friend Chef Pisghetti cook some delicious meatballs, and serve them to the hungry crowd. But this year, the crowd had vanished! Something was keeping people away. Something pretty big.

Nugget and Fang

Grades: Pre-K – 3

ArtsPower’s colorful new musical tells the story of Nugget, a minnow, and Fang, a shark, who get along swimmingly — until Nugget’s first day of minnow school. There, Nugget learns that minnows are supposed to be afraid of sharks! To regain Nugget’s trust, Fang takes desperate and hilarious measures. Nothing goes as planned. Fang is moping in deep waters when he notices that Nugget and his minnow schoolmates are caught up in some big trouble (and one very big net). Holy mackerel! Can Fang save the day and prove he’s a true friend?
